1. Hello, Ice China. How are you doing? Hey! I’m doing amazing! How about yourself?
2. Where are you from? I’m originally from Greenville, South Carolina, but I’m currently based in Charlotte, North Carolina. I proudly represent both Carolinas because both places helped shape who I am as a woman and as an artist. 
3. Tell us a little about yourself. I’m somebody who knows what struggle looks like, but I never let it stop me from chasing what I believe I’m meant to do. I’ve always been determined to create my own lane instead of following someone else’s path. Even when the odds were against me, I found a way to prevail. Besides being an artist, I’m also a proud mother. My children are my biggest motivation, and I want them to see that no matter where you come from, you can accomplish anything you put your mind to if you’re willing to work for it.
   
4. What is the biggest lesson the streets of Charlotte taught you that helps you survive the music business? Charlotte taught me that everybody smiling in your face isn’t always rooting for your success. It taught me to trust my discernment and pay attention to people’s actions instead of just their words. One minute people will cheer you on, and the next they’ll be talking behind your back. Of course, that doesn’t apply to everybody I’ve met, because I’ve met some genuine people too. But it definitely taught me to move wisely.
5. When you look at the Charlotte skyline now compared to when you were a kid, did you always know you would own this city? I’ve always dreamed bigger than just one city. Charlotte has opportunities, and I’m grateful for them, but I also know that hometown support doesn’t always come first. A lot of times people don’t believe in you until the rest of the world does. Then suddenly everybody says they knew you were next. That’s just the reality of this business. Not everyone is like that, but it’s something I’ve definitely experienced.
6. Who was the first person in Charlotte to tell you that you were going to be a star? Without a doubt, my mother. She believed in me before anybody else did. And honestly. Her name is Ms. Star, so I guess she was destined to raise one. (Laughs.)
7. What is your favorite spot in the city to go to when you need to clear your head and write a song? I find myself going Uptown a lot. The energy out there inspires me. The skyline, the lights, the nightlife, the people—it’s all motivation. Sometimes just riding through the city with music playing is enough to spark a whole new song.
8. Your song hit Number 1 on Inspir3 Radio in just 8 weeks. Did you know it was a hit the second you left the recording booth? First off, shoutout to Inspir3 Radio! Hitting No. 1 in just eight weeks was an incredible feeling, and I’m so thankful for everyone who supported the record. As far as knowing it was a hit, honestly, no. You never really know how people are going to receive your music. I knew I loved “Let Me See” because I literally played it on repeat for five months straight. I told myself, “As long as I love it, that’s what matters.” I just hoped other people would connect with it too. Thankfully, they did, and I’m forever grateful.
9. Going Number 1 in 8 weeks is crazy fast. What was the exact moment you realized your life changed forever? It really hit me when someone stopped me in public and said, “Ice China. Is that you?” Then they started rapping my song word for word. I was standing there thinking, “Oh my God… this can’t be real.” That moment let me know people were really paying attention and my hard work was finally being recognized. That’s a feeling I’ll never forget.
10. When Inspir3 Radio announced you had the most-played song, who was the first person you called to celebrate? Without a doubt, my mom. She’s my biggest supporter. She was probably even more excited than I was. (Laughs.) She started calling everybody in her phone telling them, “My daughter has the most-played song on the radio!” Seeing how proud she was made that moment even more special for me.
11. Why do you think fans connected with this song so fast? I think part of it was the sample. I sampled T.I.‘s “Top Back,” and growing up in the South, that’s a record almost everybody knows. I’m a huge T.I. fan, and to me he’ll always be the King of the South. Then you mix that familiar feeling with my own style, my voice, my energy, and the way I rode the beat—it gave people something fresh while still feeling nostalgic. I think that’s why the record connected so quickly.
12. Now that you have a Number 1 song on Inspir3 Radio, do you feel pressure to make your next song even bigger? (Laughs.) Absolutely. The pressure is definitely there because the bar is higher. But I look at it as motivation instead of pressure. Every record I drop, I want to outdo the last one. I’m always challenging myself to grow as an artist.
13. Does the fame from Carolina Thick help your music career, or do you have to work twice as hard to prove you can really rap? I think it does both. Carolina Thick gives people a chance to see my personality and who I am outside of the music, which helps people connect with me on a different level. But let’s be honest. When people watch reality TV, a lot of them tune in for the drama before anything else. So I still have to prove myself every time I step in the booth. I never want people to know me just because I was on a reality show. I want them to know Ice China because the music speaks for itself. If they become fans of my personality too, that’s just a bonus.
14. What is the biggest lie people believe about you based on what they see on TV? Probably that I was the one starting all the drama. What people don’t realize is a lot happened off camera that viewers never got to see. Could I have handled some situations differently? Absolutely. I’m not perfect. But one thing about me is I’m big on respect. I’m showing up for people on and off camera. I expect that same respect in return. When I feel disrespected, I’m going to stand on that every time.
15. How do you decide what parts of your real life to keep for your music and what parts to give to the TV show? Honestly, I go with my intuition. I’ve learned to trust my gut. Some experiences are better expressed through my music because that’s where I’m most vulnerable. Other moments fit naturally on television. I never try to force it. I just let it happen organically.
16. Has anyone from the Carolina Thick cast gotten jealous of your music success? I’ll say this: when we were filming, there were definitely people who doubted me. I remember during one challenge I was trying to pull up one of my freestyle videos on YouTube, and at the time it didn’t have many views. People laughed, talked about my numbers, and even joked that I was freestyling over someone else’s beat. Fast forward to me dropping “Let Me See.” The video took off, the song started getting radio play, and it reached No. 1 on Inspir3 Radio. The same people who counted me out had to watch everything change. That’s why I always tell people. I never underestimate somebody willing to keep working. Success speaks louder than opinions.
17. Who have you had to fight on the show? (Laughs.) Let’s say I had my share of situations. I ended up defending myself over things other people said, and because of behind-the-scenes issues viewers didn’t always get to see. I’m not going to name names because I’m not giving anybody free clout. If people want to know what happened, they’ll have to tune in to Carolina Thick.
18. If you had to choose today between being a permanent TV star or a full-time touring artist, which one wins? I’m choosing touring artist every time. Music is my first love. The beautiful thing is, once you’re touring and building your brand, you can always create your own TV show and bring your fans along for the journey. Music opens the door for everything else I want to do.

20. Why should the world look at you as the new queen of rap in Queen City? Because I represent everything this city needs—authenticity, resilience, leadership, and real talent. I don’t try to be anybody else. I stay true to myself, and I let the work speak for itself. Charlotte has incredible talent, and I’m proud to be part of that. But make no mistake… Da Ice is here, and I’m coming for the crown.
21. What do you say to the haters who think you didn’t work for this? The proof is in the pudding. None of this happened overnight, even if it looks like it did. People only see the wins. They don’t see the sleepless nights, the tears, the sacrifices, or the moments I almost gave up. But one thing about me… quitting has never been an option. If they hate me now, they better buckle up because I’m just getting started. Ice China isn’t going anywhere. I’m here to stay.
22. How do you balance waking up early for TV shoots and staying up late in the studio making hits?  (Laughs.) That’s actually a really good question! Honestly, I think adrenaline takes over. One minute I’m exhausted, and the next I’m wide awake like I never needed sleep. I know my purpose, and that keeps me going. I also believe in taking little power naps whenever I can—even if it’s just five minutes. You’d be surprised what five minutes can do! But at the end of the day, my goals are bigger than my excuses.
23. What is the hardest part about being a woman in an industry dominated by men? I’d say getting people to take you seriously. As a woman, there are men in this industry who will sell you dreams, promises, and opportunities that aren’t really what they seem. Sometimes they have hidden agendas and are more interested in getting close to you than helping your career. That’s why discernment is everything. You have to know your worth, stand on your principles, and never compromise yourself to get ahead. If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.
24. You have the look, the TV show, and the radio hits. What is the missing piece to your empire right now? First off, thank you. I really appreciate that. If I’m being real, the missing piece is financial backing. Being an independent artist isn’t cheap. You’re investing in your music, videos, marketing, travel, branding, and so many things people never even see behind the scenes. Sometimes you’re spending thousands before the public notices anything. But I believe in betting on myself. I know the investment pays off, so until then, I’m going to keep working and building my empire one step at a time.
25. Who is your biggest inspiration when it comes to music? Nipsey Hussle is definitely one of my biggest inspirations. He wasn’t just making music. He was educating people, building businesses, creating ownership, and changing mindsets. His message was bigger than the songs, and I respect that. But my biggest motivation is my children. They get so excited seeing their mom chase her dreams. Hearing them call me “Ice China” and cheer me on means more than any award ever could. They remind me every day why I can’t stop, and why I have to keep pushing forward.
26. When are we getting the official album? (Laughs.) Right now I’m focused on finishing my EP. Before I drop a full album, I want to keep building my fanbase and growing my audience worldwide. I want people to really know who Ice China is first. By the time that album comes, I want the demand to be so high that people have been waiting for it. Trust me. It will be worth it.
27. If you could collaborate with any major artist on your next track, who are you calling? There are so many artists I’d love to work with, but if I had to choose one right now, it’d be Cardi B. I feel like we have a lot of similarities in where we came from and how we had to fight to get where we are. I’ve admired Cardi since before all the fame. I love her authenticity, her confidence, and the way she stayed true to herself. I respect her journey, and I think we’d make a crazy record together.
28. Where do you see yourself when the next season of Carolina Thick drops? I see myself on an even higher level than I am now. You’ll also see me stepping fully into my role as Executive Producer while still being a cast member. This season, people are going to see a different side of me. Last time I gave a lot of grace, and some people took my kindness for weakness. This time I’m coming with leadership, structure, and high standards. Either get in line with the vision, or make room for somebody who will.
29. What advice do you have for a young girl who is watching you on TV and wants to rap just like you? Always be yourself. Unapologetically. People are going to have something to say whether you’re winning or losing, so don’t live your life trying to please everybody else. Know who you are, stand on your values, and believe in yourself even when nobody else does. Once you believe in yourself, eventually everybody else will too.
30. When people look back at this year, do you want them to remember you as a great TV personality or a legendary rapper? Legendary. Without question. I want my music to outlive me. I want people to hear my story through my records, be inspired by my journey, and realize they can overcome whatever life throws at them too. If my legacy helps change even one person’s life, then I’ve accomplished something bigger than fame.
31. What is the next thing you are going to take over? (Laughs.) The world! I want to see “Ice China” everywhere. In cities I can’t even pronounce. But seriously, my goal is global. I want the name and the face to become a household brand. I’m not just building a music career; I’m building an empire. And trust me. We are only getting started.
32. How can we listen to your music, and do you have merch, vinyl, and CDS? On all major streaming platforms? Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon Music, Tidal… wherever you listen to music, search Ice China. As for merch, it’s definitely on the way, so stay tuned because I have some exciting things coming.
