This is the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop and we still have a lot of discrepancies as far as the origins of Hip-Hop, a lot of claims, who did what and who was the first this and that and such and such, but at the end of the day we need a definitive story, and that can only be told by the founders of this culture
The movie features early Hip-Hop pioneers Coke La Rock, Sha Rock, Cornbread, Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz, Trixie, and more.
Tariq created this film to debunk the myth that Jamaicans and Hispanics founded Hip-Hop. Jamaicans and Hispanics were apart of Hip-Hop in Later Years.
DJ Cool Herc gets credit for creating Hip-Hop music. There were Native Black American DJS and MCs before Kool Herc. DJ Kool Herc is of Jamaica Descent.
Grandmaster Flowers, Disco King Mario, DJ Hollywood, and more did it before Kool Herc. Everyone is of Native Black heritage.
Jamaicans are claiming Hip-Hop came from Jamaican toasting. Tariq pointed out reggae was slow and didn’t match the rhythm of Hip-Hop. Native Black Americans took old soul and disco records to create Hip-Hop. Early Hip-Hop song sampled James Brown.
Hip-Hop is more than music! It is a lifestyle that includes Graffiti, DJing, Rapping, Beatboxing, Knowledge, Empowerment, and Fashion. Early Hip-Hop was influenced by The Nation of Islam and The Five-Percent Nation. Furthermore, Native Black Americans created Jazz, Blues, Country, Rock, Heavy Metal, Disco, House, Techno, etc.
Tariq Nasheed rose to fame by writing phenomenal relationship and dating advice books. His books offer a different approach from all the books that were on the market at that time.
He went on to start filming The Hidden Color series. It tells the hidden history of black people.
The movie is now in theaters
What do you think about the movie?
Most Hip-Hop Documentaries start in the 80’s. However, Native Black Americans aka FBA (Foundation Black Americans) created Hip-Hop in the ’70s. Furthermore, You can find Footage of Black Americans rapping and break dancing in the 50’s.
